Job Title: Camp Program Leader - Land

Rate of Pay: $146.63 per day
Contract: May – August 2026
About CCS: The Canadian Cancer Society raises funds to fuel cancer research and provides a compassionate support system for all affected by cancer.
Camp Goodtimes: Provides an unforgettable overnight summer camp experience for children and youth affected by cancer.
Role Overview: The Outdoor Skills Program Leader lives on site at Camp Goodtimes hosted by UBC’s Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, near Maple Ridge, BC. Working with the summer staff team and volunteer team, they facilitate programs such as archery, nature, sports, and special event programs. Under the direction of the Summer Program Director, they ensure programming is inclusive and supportive of the social and emotional needs of participants.
They provide support in all land areas of camp to ensure we are providing intentional, creative, safe, and fun programs y will take a lead role facilitating skill‑based programs on land as well as camp‑wide programs and special events.
Commitment:
- May 9, June 6, 7, 23, 24 – In‑person training in Vancouver or at camp at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre.
- June 28 – August 2, 2026 – On‑site living at camp for 6 sessions (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.
- August 8 – 27, 2026 – On‑site living at Camp Pringle, Shawnigan Lake, BC (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Facilitate outdoor skill‑based programs including Archery, Field Sports, Nature.
- Facilitate creative cabin‑based programming in afternoons, evenings, and all‑camp programs.
- Set up and take down of all programs.
- Plan and execute creative skits throughout camp.
- Teach facilitation skills to volunteers.
- Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity by ensuring all staff feel represented, valued, and heard.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in camping, youth recreation, and experiential education.
- Experience working with populations with a range of accessibility needs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including team building and facilitation.
- Ability to take initiative, problem‑solve, and work as a team member.
- Experience or understanding of cancer diagnosis and its impact, or a willingness to learn.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C.
- Criminal Record Search including vulnerable sector check (once hired).
- Must provide proof of up‑to‑date childhood immunizations.
- Must provide proof of COVID‑19 vaccines and booster within 12 months of camp start date.
- National Lifeguard (NL) as an asset.
- English required;
French/English a bilingual asset. - Others may apply.
