Overview

The maintenance technician is responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing equipment that produces polyethylene packaging materials. They should ensure safety, quality and production outputs are optimized for all work they perform. They work closely with the maintenance department manager and other members of that department to ensure all company and departmental goals are met.

Essential duties & responsibilities

  • Trouble shoot and repair equipment and machinery as scheduled and react to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.
  • Fill out paperwork such as maintenance requests and purchase orders ensuring accurate and legible information
  • Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Perform building maintenance such as plumbing, structural and electrical repairs.
  • Telephones/communicates parts specifications to vendors. Orders and picks up parts if needed
  • Installs and/or upgrades equipment and machinery as assigned.
  • Performs new or special maintenance projects as assigned.
  • Perform housekeeping in all areas of responsibility.
  • Communicates all pertinent information to the maintenance department manager such as; condition of equipment, unsafe conditions, work load, or any delays or problems encountered in the performance of the day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Assists in training of other maintenance personnel whenever necessary.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  • Performs all other assigned duties.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Education:

    Must have knowledge of all department equipment, processes, functions and procedures; and a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have completed all current training required by law and by Arkansas Poly & Printing
  • Language

    Skills:
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Must be able to read and interpret English language documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, electrical schematics, procedure manuals, and company handbook.
    • Must be able to speak and write in English effectively when presenting information to supervisors and fellow employees.
    • Ability to communicate with department employees on maintenance work.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:
    • Required to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Required to read a tape measure.
Essential Physical demands
  • While performing the duties required of this position, the employee is constantly required to stand for up to 12 hours, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • The employee will occasionally be required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds or more than fifty (50) pounds with assistance or proper equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This role requires the employee to concentrate for long periods of time.
Work environment
  • The work environment includes moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.
  • There is the possibility the employee will occasionally be exposed to high precarious places, hazardous chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment can be considered loud.
  • The temperature is not completely controlled and can be considered to be related to seasonal conditions.
Hazmat incident responsibilities
  • Training
    • Initial and annual training on elements of OSHA Haz Com and EPA hazardous waste operating procedures, DOT hazmat handling procedures, incidental spill response protocol, evacuation drills and flammable liquid fire safety procedures.
