PayLevel 2: $29.73
Level 3: $33.10
Level 4: $36.47
Proficiency can be demonstrated by formal classroom training and/or demonstration of ability from prior employment or training to the satisfaction of the maintenance supervisor/manager or engineering manager. In addition, to successfully move from one level to another, the individual must successfully pass the applicable level entrance test.
Additionally, all mechanics must receive a passing combination score on Mechanical Comprehension and hands‑on testing.
ShiftMonday‑Friday 8‑hour shift OR 12‑hour day shift 3/4 days per week
OverviewSun Chemical is seeking a Maintenance Technician for our Valparaiso, IN location. The required experience will vary depending on the specific role level (Level 2, Level 3, or Level 4). The Maintenance Technician will be adept at independently assessing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on all facility equipment. We are particularly interested in candidates who are eager to learn and advance through multiple levels.
EssentialJob Functions
- Follows all plant and OSHA safety policies and procedures, reporting all near misses and unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Capable of the installation, repair, and maintenance of all plant equipment, including new equipment installations and special project work.
- Perform safely and adequately under stress when confronted with hazardous, critical, or urgent situations.
- Willing and capable of working with, directing, and imparting knowledge to similar and lesser skilled personnel in the engineering trades group including contract maintenance personnel.
- Cleans the work area and returns all parts, tools, welding rods, etc. to the shop at the completion of job or shift if the job is not completed.
- Capable of safely using and understanding the use of all tools required in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all plant equipment.
- Exercises sound judgment and safely apply principles to solve problems. Capable of interpreting complex technical manuals, specifications, schematics, layout drawings and blueprints as required to complete repairs or installations.
- Performs all required shop math and calculations necessary to complete required tasks.
- Clearly, accurately and concisely documents all activities, needs and status of repairs in the shift report. This includes call‑ins, or the repair status of work completed by all crafts during the holidays when the outside contractors are working.
- Completes all other duties as required or assigned, such as carpentry, office furniture assembly, landscaping, plumbing, housekeeping, snow removal, etc. and during periods of extenuating circumstances assists production to return the plant to normal operation. This could include packing, dropping presses, etc.
Education and Experience
All mechanics must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate a willingness to continually learn and improve their skills.
Varying level of experience with the following based on level
:
- Pipe Fitting Skills (glued/threaded/valve/actuator/natural gas/ammonia/hydrogen/nitrogen)
- Millwright Skills (pump/valves)
- Welding Skills (structural/structural steel)
- Electrical Skills (120 v to 480 v)
- VFD/VSD Installation and troubleshooting
- Transmitter setup and calibrations
- Utilities (air compressor/cooling towers/chillers/boiler)
