Overview
Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Crown Point, located in Crown Point, Indiana as a Registry Infusion Nurse (RN) at our Valparaiso location. The Infusion Nurse, under the direction of the Attending Physician or a licensed independent Practitioner, provides technically complex and high-risk nursing care services to patients including intravenous infusions and injections for both chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications.
Responsibilities- Represents The University of Chicago Medicine (UCMC) positively with the community we serve; interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and other customers; demonstrates knowledge of UCMC operating practices.

- Handle confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation.
- Perform a variety of clinical and research procedures with efficiency and high standards; ensure proper protocol for each sedation.
- Provide patient care compassionately and empathetically; apply age-specific considerations in care; involve a multidisciplinary team to support patient and family psychosocial needs.
- Accurately complete required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each encounter; exercise sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention; recognize conditions requiring immediate action and initiate life-support interventions while communicating with physicians.
- Maintain nursing equipment and work areas; report malfunctions; keep areas neat and clean; maintain inventory control of supplies; ensure emergency equipment is available and restocked with fiscal awareness.
- Interface with patients, families, visitors, and staff professionally; apply AIDET principles; accommodate special needs of customers when possible.
- Perform required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or required by UCMC.
- Rotate to clinical areas to assist with safe staffing ratios; transport sedated patients to appropriate areas as needed.
- Assess, treat, and evaluate patient conditions specific to the work area (e.g., anxiety, pain, claustrophobia, underlying diseases); evaluate and treat pain promptly and reassess after interventions, charting per UCMC protocol; provide continuity of care for infant, pediatric, or adult patients based on area of specialty; assist in care of critically ill patients during sedation/procedural encounters; administer high-risk infusion and transfusion (e.g., chemotherapy medicines).
- ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy card within 3 months of hire.
- Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
- Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six to nine months of hire and progress toward and complete their BSN within 30 months; ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement toward a BSN degree from an accredited program.
- OCN preferred.
- Experience working in a research environment.
- Chemotherapy experience preferred.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of Indiana.
- Current CPR/BLS through the American Heart Association.
