Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a RN Emergency Dept Days.
Responsibilities- In this role, the registered nurse executes professional nursing care in accordance with physician treatment plans to provide for the comfort and well-being of patients and their family or support system.
- Assesses the patient’s needs, plans and implements the treatment plan, observes and evaluates the patient’s progress and documents pertinent observations.
- Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary health team to meet the holistic needs of the patient.
- Directs the delivery of nursing care by the other members of the nursing team.
- Participates in the orientation process of new employees.
- The nurse collects patient health data involving the patient, family and other health care providers.
- Performs initial assessments based on patient presentation and records relevant data on the nursing component of the Interdisciplinary Admission Assessment.
- Demonstrates awareness of the special needs of each age group or culture served, including patients with disabilities.
- Performs ongoing assessments as established by department policy and as warranted by the patient’s response.
- Incorporates discharge planning into the admission process.
- Develops and communicates a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes and collaborates with the patient, family and appropriate healthcare providers in developing the plan of care.
- Integrates identified cultural, ethnic and spiritual aspects of care into the plan of care.
- Provides education to the patient and family using identified learning needs and developmental level.
- Assists the patient and family in identifying and securing services to address health-related needs.
- Documents the initial plan of care and provides updates as required; establishes realistic goals and priorities and uses time efficiently.
- Implements the plan of care for each patient and performs appropriate patient monitoring; adapts nursing procedures to meet individual patient needs.
- Provides care that demonstrates ethical beliefs and respect for patient rights and participates in activities that support customer satisfaction.
- Participates in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices and supports measures to improve practice.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain effective interactions with staff and contribute to the professional development of peers and other health care providers.
- Acts as a facilitator when dealing with other staff concerning patient care and unit functioning; seeks assistance from the Nurse Manager or Nursing Administrative Supervisor when needed.
- Accepts feedback for improved patient care and participates in performance appraisals to identify strengths and areas for development.
- Works with management to improve the environment of care for patients, families and personnel; maintains knowledge of unit-specific policies and procedures.
- Maintains knowledge base through departmental meetings, educational programs, professional association membership, journal review or committee participation and complies with staff meeting attendance requirements.
