Overview
The Physical Therapist (PT) is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with physical impairments, functional limitations, or movement-related conditions.
This role focuses on restoring mobility, reducing pain, improving functional independence, and preventing disability through evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
The Physical Therapist works collaboratively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams to deliver high-quality rehabilitative care.
Key Responsibilities- Perform comprehensive patient evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans
- Provide therapeutic interventions including exercises, manual therapy, modalities, and functional training
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and document outcomes accurately
- Educate patients and caregivers on treatment goals, home exercise programs, and injury prevention
- Supervise and guide Physical Therapist Assistants and support staff as applicable
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care
- Ensure patient safety, proper body mechanics, and adherence to infection control practices
- Maintain treatment equipment and ensure a safe therapeutic environment
- Comply with ethical standards, state practice acts, and healthcare regulations
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Current Physical Therapist license or eligibility for licensure in the applicable state
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and rehabilitation techniques
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and develop evidence-based treatment plans
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills
- Ability to work with patients across diverse age groups and physical conditions
- Proficiency with clinical documentation and electronic health record systems
- Prior clinical experience in outpatient, inpatient, rehabilitation, or acute care settings
- Experience treating orthopedic, neurological, cardiopulmonary, or post-surgical conditions
- Strong collaboration and leadership skills
- CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
