Job Responsibilities Direct Supervision and Safety
- Uses therapeutic and crisis prevention models to role model, teach and help youth learn de-escalation skills
- Direct supervision of youth: maintaining visual observation of youth, monitoring well-being and conduct to prevent critical incidents from occurring and ensuring safety for youth and staff members.
- Maintain a therapeutic culture that encourages positive, respectful, and supportive interactions between residents and staff, residents and their peers.
- Supervises overall safety and security procedures; responds to critical incidents utilizing a range of de‑escalation interventions or actions before using physical restraint and permits only the least restrictive measures to prevent physical harm to the resident or others.
- Completes necessary follow‑up reports following critical incidents and emergency situations
- Follows mandated report requirements for reporting of potential child abuse and neglect.
- May be assigned to provide supervision during family and other approved visitation.
- Monitors resident phone calls as needed.
- When a resident is admitted to an area hospital, may be assigned to provide supervision of resident while in the hospital.
- May be assigned to ensure that both staff and visitors entering the facility participate in checkpoint screening which includes the walk‑through metal detector and security wand.
- May conduct both random & scheduled facility and outside perimeter security checks on each scheduled shift, report findings to shift supervisor and complete security log.
- May be responsible to manage all security control‑room functionalities and pod control such as:
- granting access to doors using access control panels
- controlling and logging all movements throughout the building, entrance and exit of the building
- observing and managing camera system, to ensure all cameras are operational and viewable at all times
- answering intercoms throughout the building including from resident rooms
- fielding external calls and forwarding to appropriate person(s)
- Responsible for monitoring fire control panel
- Responsible to complete the intake packet, ensuring appropriate paperwork is received for admission from the admitting agency. Screens for appropriateness of the referral based on the information received.
- Responsible for all pat down, and strip searches, reviewing youth handbook with the youth and providing them with a copy.
- When assigned by Shift Supervisor or AOD will act as the on‑shift supervisor for that shift. In that role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the shift.
- May be assigned to be a member of the rapid response team for their assigned shift.
- Supervises, counsels, and instructs facility residents in daily living, recreational, and/or educational activities as needed
- Provides informal guidance and counsel to youth.
- Manage challenging behaviors through de‑escalation techniques, facilitating positive behavior supports
- Ensures adherence to facility policies and procedures while acting as a positive role model for the youth in their care.
- When acting as supervisor, responsible for assigning staff to their post for the shift.
- When assigned to a pod, acts in the role of a lead and ensures the program schedule is followed and manages issues that may arise on the shift.

Documentation and Reporting- Maintains narrative log records of shift activities such as shift change, residents movement, formal youth population counts, incidents, 15 minute room checks.
- Reviews all log records for the shift for accuracy
- When acting as supervisor, ensures all critical incident reports and other paperwork for the shift is completed fully and accurately by the end of the shift.
- All staff share responsibility as needed for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. When working overnight shift is responsible for rotating chore list.
- Coordinates with other professionals like educators, Case Managers, Clinicians and Nursing.
