Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Network Director of Pharmacy Automation and Informatics, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Westchester Medical Center's automated pharmacy dispensing systems. The Informatics Specialist provides user support, performs maintenance activities and troubleshooting, and monitors proper functionality and use of the system. The Informatics Specialist coordinates the installation of new units or the expansion of the current system with the appropriate hospital departments, such as Information Systems and Facilities.
The Informatics Specialist may be asked to perform network duties remotely or in person. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. Does related work as required.
- Assists pharmacists and technicians, and other staff in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the automated medication distribution process.
- Coordinates setup, new builds, expansions, and new hardware or software installs, ensuring that all systems, such as network, emergency power, connectivity, and space, are ready for the unit "go live."
- Communicates the status of system projects, activities, and issues to the pharmacy, nursing, and other appropriate staff.
- Monitors system activities and communications with the main hospital information system.
- Troubleshoots the system as issues arise.
- Performs physical inspection of stations and makes or coordinates necessary repairs.
- Ensures that the stations are updated to conform with changes to the formulary.
- Manages the user database and maintains an up-to-date user list and activates, deactivates, and deletes users as necessary.
- Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team to address system issues, develop and review policy and procedure, and contribute to planning and implementation.
- Collects data for audits in the EMR and automation systems
- Audits users, such as anesthesia, nursing, pharmacy, etc.
- Verifies and analyzes charges in Cerner and Invision utilizing Huron, RevID, or other software. Works with the Revenue Cycle team to correct issues.
- Performs daily bar code scan maintenance utilizing purchasing reports and Cerner reports
- Validates and upload price updates on a quarterly basis
- Adds new NDCs to medications in the Pharm Net.
- Maintains the Pending Charge queue and works with nursing leadership to rectify issues.
- Collects data for studies as defined by the Network Director of Pharmacy Automation and Informatics.
Experience:
Five years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or health care facility using an automated system such as Pyxis for dispensing medication. Three years of BD (Pyxis, Pharmogistics, IV Prep, etc.) product implementation and maintenance experience. Three years minimum Cerner Pharm Net experience. Must have good communication skills, be organized, and be computer knowledgeable.
Education:
High school or equivalency diploma. Licenses / Certifications. Valid Pharmacy Technician license issued by the New York State Board of Pharmacy.
