Overview

This position is responsible for supervising the department's residential yard trash, sanitation, special pick-up, or street maintenance functions as assigned.

* Plans and organizes daily work assignments.

* Coordinates collection routes and maintenance schedules.

* Ensures employee compliance with safety procedures.

* Trains, assigns, schedules, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel; reviews and approves leave requests.

* Inspects collection or maintenance routes to ensure that work is completed as assigned.

* Coordinates the maintenance of assigned vehicles, tools and equipment.

* Responds to customer complaints, concerns and inquires; provides information and assistance and resolves problems.

* Drives and operates a variety of maintenance equipment such as loaders, backhoes, and graders.

* Performs skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and labor work as needed.

* Performs related duties.

Qualifications

* Knowledge of modern principles of sanitation, street maintenance and vehicle and equipment maintenance.

* Knowledge of city streets and geography.

* Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.

* Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.

* Skill in management and supervision.

* Skill in problem solving.

* Skill in prioritizing and planning.

* Skill in interpersonal relations.

* Skill in oral and written communication.

* Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

* Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.

* Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
