Overview

This position is responsible for assisting customers by properly identifying needed items, using parts catalogs and computer systems, billing merchandise orders, and making necessary entries to the inventory control system, while distributing special order parts, receiving warranty parts, and maintaining shelf stock.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Work with the parts team to make the department more profitable.
  • Identify model, serial number, and type of part needed.
  • Read catalogs, John Deere Vision or computer for replacement part stock number and price.
  • Order and receive parts from John Deere and other vendors.
  • Fill customer orders from stock and ensure technicians receive the correct parts in a timely manner.
  • Receive and ship parts as needed in accordance with DOT guidelines.
  • Track lost sales and stay current on new product bulletins and catalogs.
  • Prepare computerized invoices and process payments or obtain credit authorization.
  • Advise customers on substitution or modification of parts when replacement is not available.
  • Pickup and deliver parts for customers and vendors as needed.
  • Maintain periodic parts returns as needed.
  • Attend training classes and store meetings.
  • Examine returned parts to determine if defective and exchange the part or refund money.
  • Mark and store parts in stockroom according to prearranged system; ensure defective merchandise is tagged with date, hours used, serial number, model number, and correct part number, and placed in warranty bins.
  • Return all unsold merchandise to the correct stock location and notify Parts Manager of discrepancies between inventory records and shelf quantities.
  • Maintain a clean and safe operating department.
  • Assist with annual physical inventory and control expenses to increase profitability.
Qualifications
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Forklift Certification
  • Parts counter experience
Education, Skill, and/or Experience Requirements
  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six years related experience and/or training
  • Organization and communication skills must be highly developed
  • Computer skills need to be broad based
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, statistics, and geometry
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

The work environment is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually quiet.
