Overview

At the center of any fight with cancer is the patient. Each patient needs top-notch treatment from diagnosis to recovery. At Pearlman Comprehensive Cancer Center, our role is to provide personalized, efficient, and effective care for every patient. The staff at the Bruce Williams Radiation Therapy Center take that role seriously by combining imaging capability with the most precise radiation delivery system available.

The goal is to treat the tumor with a high dose of radiation while protecting the surrounding vital organs and tissues. It’s always exciting to have the most advanced technology to offer our patients who are part of our community, our friends and family. The Elekta VersHD linear accelerator treatment units are the center of radiation therapy. These highly versatile units provide our patients with customized treatments including:

- 3D conformal and electron therapy:A variety of energies are available to adjust to tumor position and depth. The shape of the treatment beams are sculpted to the shape of the tumor to reduce side effects of treatment.

- IMRT:Intensity modulated radiation therapy has sophisticated software and computer controlled multileaf collimator to deliver radiation in hundreds of tiny, finely shaped segments to a tumor, resulting in a higher dose to the tumor and a lower dose to healthy tissue.

- IGRT:Image guided radiation therapy enhances treatment through imaging localize disease and addressing internal organ movement.

- SBRT:Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy is a method of administering very high doses of radiation to a small tumor over 1-5 days utilizing 4D treatment planning for patients who cannot tolerate surgery.

- SRS:Stereotactic radiosurgery is also a non-surgical radiation therapy treatment used to treat small tumors of the brain with cones to limit the treatment area to very small fields.

- VMAT:Volume modulated arc therapy speeds up the treatment delivery time allowing increased accuracy and precision of the treatment.

- SGRT:Surface guided radiation therapy has an integrated camera system to project a laser map on the patient’s skin surface to detect any changes in position during treatment.
