Position: Process Control Engineer (Valdosta Mill)

Overview

Process Control Engineer (Valdosta Mill) — Valdosta, Georgia. We are seeking a Process Control Engineer in our Valdosta, GA Paper Mill to coordinate planning, programming, and maintenance of all mill PLC, Distributed, and Quality Control Systems, and to lead a group of hourly union journeyman technicians on programming and maintenance activities.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate planning, organizing, programming, and maintenance of mill PLC, Distributed Control, and Quality Control Systems.
  • Manage a group of hourly union journeyman technicians on programming and distributed control system activities based on operational and engineering needs.
  • Define and participate in development of control system daily and preventative maintenance programs to improve reliability.
  • Provide technical direction, assistance, and solutions to hourly electrical maintenance and operating personnel.
  • Support daily and monthly maintenance outages and annual outage jobs with mechanical, reliability maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with maintenance/engineering and operations personnel to complete maintenance and capital projects.
  • Provide management and programming support including programming, training, stocking of spare parts, preventive maintenance checklists, drawing creation, and updates for maintenance/engineering personnel.
  • Support the mill’s safety, environmental, and other goals.
  • Supervise the hourly union workforce and the programming of all mill control systems for daily activities, capital projects, and system reliability.
  • Manage control system equipment tracking programs and PM programs.
  • Utilize predictive and preventative maintenance to identify and correct equipment issues.
  • Input and update equipment information and documentation; develop equipment manuals for inspection and maintenance of control systems.
  • Plan and execute capital projects for maintenance replacements of control systems equipment; manage jobs for outages and assist with MS Project timelines.
  • Identify opportunities to solve issues, reduce costs, and improve planning performance; solve problems using the RCFA program; effectively manage contractors.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Successful completion of drug screen and authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pulp & Paper industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: able to work under pressure and within time constraints, multi-task, and build relationships with internal/external customers.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Independent, creative problem-solving, adaptability to change.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple requests.
  • Ability to read and understand technical correspondence, memos, instructions, and reports.
  • Commitment to continuous process improvement with a focus on safety.
  • Demonstrated leadership, planning, and follow-up skills; strong people and process management.
