Responsibilities- Teaching Expectation: 40%
- Teaching responsibilities include lecture and/or lab courses within the undergraduate degree program in physics and core science courses, including astronomy. The minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics, or closely related field, which may include laboratory maintenance.
- Teach classes during the academic year as assigned by the Dean, including duties and obligations expected of a college professor (grading, maintaining regular office hours, class preparations, and adherence to university policies).
- Research Expectation: 50%
- Develop an independent, novel research program; maintain a strong publication and grant record; foster collaborations with other researchers; publish results and co-author grants.
- Service Expectation: 10%
- Service to the university includes work on department, college, and university committees, work groups, and campaigns to promote Augusta University's mission.
Educational Requirements
Candidates should have a PhD Degree in Physics in a fundable research area and have a strong publication record in ranked peer-reviewed journals in their research areas.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Have a strong publication record in ranked peer-reviewed journals in their research areas. Should be able to develop an independent, novel research program. Excellence in teaching is expected.
Shift/Salary/BenefitsThis position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Assistant Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
