• Teaching Expectation: 40%
• Teaching responsibilities include lecture and/or lab courses within the undergraduate degree program in physics and core science courses, including astronomy. The minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in Physics, Astrophysics, or closely related field, which may include laboratory maintenance.
• Teach classes during the academic year as assigned by the Dean, including duties and obligations expected of a college professor (grading, maintaining regular office hours, class preparations, and adherence to university policies).
• Research Expectation: 50%
• Develop an independent, novel research program; maintain a strong publication and grant record; foster collaborations with other researchers; publish results and co-author grants.
• Service Expectation: 10%
• Service to the university includes work on department, college, and university committees, work groups, and campaigns to promote Augusta University's mission.

Educational Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD Degree in Physics in a fundable research area and have a strong publication record in ranked peer-reviewed journals in their research areas.

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:

• Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
• Evidence of ability as a teacher;
• Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
• Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
• Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Have a strong publication record in ranked peer-reviewed journals in their research areas. Should be able to develop an independent, novel research program. Excellence in teaching is expected.

This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.

Assistant Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
