Job Summary

The Department Chair position is a faculty-ranked, 12-month administrative role. The chair collaborates with the Dean to ensure the smooth functioning of the health sciences program. As a faculty member, the chair teaches half-time, remains active as a scholar, and engages students through service.

The chair must effectively manage course scheduling, budgets, personnel, and facilities; lead curriculum development; cultivate external partnerships; and perform other departmental leadership functions. Candidates should be able to work with GGC’s global student population. This position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Responsibilities
  • Essential Function 1: Assign faculty teaching duties and complete the schedule of classes, practicum rotations, and labs in collaboration with faculty and staff
  • Essential Function 2: Complete annual evaluations of faculty and staff direct reports
  • Essential Function 3: Coordinate and supervise faculty searches (both FT and PT)
  • Essential Function 4: Coordinate program-level assessment initiatives
  • Essential Function 5: Recommend and coordinate personnel actions (e.g., academic leave, promotion, merit raises, appointment reset, appointment renewal) to the Dean
  • Essential Function 6: Manage student issues, grade appeals, complaints, petitions, and faculty issues per SHS handbooks and the GGC Administrative Policy Manual
  • Qualifications
    • Doctoral degree in public health, health sciences or related field
    • Relevant academic administrative experience; preference for at least three years of academic leadership at the program level or higher
    • Record of effective teaching, service, student engagement, and scholarly activity in the candidate’s area of specialization
    • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; strong sense of fairness and integrity
    • Record of excellence in teaching, service, student engagement, and scholarship/creative activities
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Collegial with faculty, staff, and students
    Preferred Qualifications
    • 3–5 years of experience in higher education
    • Proficiency with D2L LMS, Banner INB, and Microsoft Office
    • Background in Public Health, Health Administration, or Health Promotion
