Overview

Academic Physician Job In Georgia — FAMILY MEDICINE FACULTY OPPORTUNITY in the South Georgia region. Enjoy a blend of laid back life, local commerce and access to nearby universities. The area offers outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing and hiking opportunities, with an active 10 mile walking trail near the hospital. The medical center is growing and financially solid, with 30 specialties and state-of-the-art technology/equipment, and has approved plans to create additional capacity/beds due to increased volume.

The site hosts 4 residency programs and features a strong culture with high ratings and minimal physician attrition.

Responsibilities

Lead in the realm of continuity patient care in the hospital's outpatient clinic. Participate in the education of residents through precepting, didactic lectures, and collaboration with core faculty on program projects. Support program development and innovation and create and deliver curriculum. This faculty position provides preparation for teaching family medicine or gaining valuable GME experience for leadership roles in primary care organizations.

Teaching and supervising residents in low-risk prenatal care and postpartum care. Opportunity for teaching and supervision of residents in inpatient care and low-risk obstetrics.

Schedule:

Mon–Fri, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, averaging 2 clinic days, 1 precepting day, and dedicated administration time for GME education per week. No overnight call unless the candidate chooses to participate in optional OB or inpatient adult medicine coverage. Patient volume: approximately 10–12 patients per half day in clinic. Procedures include LARC insertion/removal, Pap smears, joint injections (with and without ultrasound), skin procedures, I&D, toenail removals, and sterile vaginal exam/cervical checks.

Educational department located on the hospital's 40,000 sq. ft. Medical Education Center. Clinic consists of 23 exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, 2 precepting rooms and a lab. Technology includes MSK ultrasound, handheld ultrasounds, Ellman radio-frequency device, Blu-U light, dermatoscopes, and NST. Hospital facilities include physicians' lounge with meals provided; 24-hour all-access employee fitness center; simulation labs, a skills lab, a computer lab, and a conference center.

Qualifications
  • Completion of Medical School & Family Medicine residency (by start).
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine (BC/BE ABFM) or American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFM).
  • Ability to obtain/maintain medical license in the state of Georgia.
  • 1+ years of experience preferred.
  • Position requires teaching and supervising residents providing full-spectrum Family Medicine in an outpatient setting.
  • Ideal candidate will have GME experience in a supervisory capacity with residents of an ACGME-accredited FM residency.
  • Will consider recent graduates strongly seeking a career in medical education or academic leadership with interest in learning GME principles.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
