Operations Manager
The City of Valdez Public Works Department is seeking a motivated and experienced leader to oversee Street and Shop/Fleet Operations.
We are looking for someone with strong mechanical knowledge, leadership ability, sound decision-making skills, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

- Full-time, benefited, hourly position
- Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on operational needs and winter weather conditions

- Lead and mentor Street and Shop staff
- Support mechanics with complex diagnostics and repairs
- Oversee fleet and heavy equipment operations
- Play a key role in winter operations
- Manage budgets, procurement, and maintenance planning
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
- Conduct inspections and mitigate risk
- Address community concerns professionally
- Serve as backup to the Public Works Director
- High School Diploma or GED
- Eight years of automotive and heavy equipment maintenance experience
- Minimum two years of supervisory experience
- OSHA 30-hour safety training within six months of hire (or completed within the last five years)
- ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications within six months of hire
- ICS 300 and 400 when available
This position participates in DOT drug and alcohol testing.
Physical RequirementsThis position regularly requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in shop and outdoor environments. Work may occur in adverse weather conditions and emergency situations.
