POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide efficient and effective leadership in guiding the evaluation process for students with special needs, monitor the implementation of educational plans, and serve as a resource for parents and staff. The Team Chair provides support for special education and related services providers in the service of students with disabilities, provides consultation and/or evaluation support during the evaluation and eligibility process.
The Team Chair provides support to the decision-making for student placement, progress, and access to resources and services, and works collaboratively with the Director of Pupil Services, other Team Chairs, and the building and district administration in promoting continuous growth in the special education programs available in the Uxbridge Public Schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Interprets Special Education regulations to parents, staff, and agencies involved
Receives referrals and facilities the evaluation process
Receives the written assessments of initial evaluation from Team members,
coordinates the components; assessments, and directs the Team Meeting
Develops and maintains accurate records of initial referrals, re-evaluations, and reviews
Acts as a consultant to school staff with respect to IEP timelines
and procedures for Team meetings in accordance with state and federal regulations
Coordinates the scheduling of re-evaluation meetings and includes
information from outside agencies (DCFDYS, DMR, DMH, private mental health agencies, private hospitals) that serve the special education child/parents
Meets with parents, as needed, to explain the Team evaluation process and discuss the recommendations resulting from such an evaluation
Assures the proper completion of mandated paperwork for meetings, assessments and IEPs
Monitors compliance with timelines and procedures for evaluations, the development of IEP and progress reports
Informs the Director of Special Education and the building principals when timelines are not met
Chairs initial, annual, and re-evaluation meetings
Assists with budget considerations, state reporting, out of district and interagency communication, and family outreach and involvement
Authorizes use of district funds to meet anticipated student needs in consultation with the Director of Pupil Services
Other duties as assigned by School and District Leaders
