Operations Manager / Contracts Manager

RC Frame & Groundwork Subcontractor – £30m turnover.

Location:

West London office with projects across London and the South of England.

With a head office based around West London, this RC frame & groundwork specialist currently turns over around £30 million per annum, with individual packages ranging from £1m up to £10m each. The company is privately owned with an MD who remains hands‑on, making sure standards are maintained and the business continues to grow. The team is strong, with every member of the management structure working together towards common goals.

The senior team often refers to the business as a well‑oiled machine, where each cog has a vital part to play. They are proud of their ability to secure a lot of their work through repeat business, as clients prefer to come back for future projects rather than win work at open tender stages with aggressive pricing strategies. This business has plans in place to grow to £50m turnover over the next three years, and they have the bank balance, client list, and capability to meet that target.

As an Operations Manager, your role will support the MD with running the construction side of all the projects. You will be involved from pre‑construction through to delivery. Good man‑management and operational skills are required, along with building knowledge relating to RC frames and groundworks. Each project will have a project manager, but your role will support these managers. You will need to problem‑solve, look ahead, manage labour and costs across multiple sites, all while maintaining client relationships and the company’s brand.

The MD is looking for someone from a trades background who understands how to build RC frames and groundworks and has the operational skills to manage multiple sites and teams. You will be his right‑hand person. Progression into an Operations Director role exists.

Packages are based on individual backgrounds and experience. Roughly, the target is £120,000 to £130,000 per annum, which can be broken down in a number of ways. The business accepts PAYE, self‑employed or limited company candidates. Bonuses are available, as well as the usual fringe benefits.

Candidate must have started on site in a trades position (e.g., groundworks or formwork), progressed through management, and currently be operating as a Contracts Manager or Operations Manager. Experience must be gained while working in the subcontract concrete frame and groundwork market, covering multiple live projects.
