TEMPORARY - Heavy Equipment Operator

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Operates North Slope Borough heavy equipment; maintains roads, airports, and landfills.

• Operate heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
• Maintains and clears roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas.
• Inspects vehicles and equipment prior to operations; completes shift inspection checklist.
• Maintain vehicle log, inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.
• Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
• Loads and unloads aircraft with heavy equipment.
• Must be polite and courteous to the public.
• May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
• Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
• Village travel as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation.
• Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
• High School graduate or G.E.D/ or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
• One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance.
• Valid Alaska Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
