Summary or Purpose
All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre‑employment, random, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, return‑to‑duty and follow‑up testing.
Operates North Slope Borough heavy equipment; maintains roads, airports, and landfills.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain and clear roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment prior to operations; complete shift inspection checklist.
- Maintain vehicle log, inspection forms, maintenance records and daily trip reports.
- Inspect and clean equipment and facility; report maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
- Load and unload aircraft with heavy equipment.
- Be polite and courteous to the public.
- May be required to work a non‑traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays, weekends and may be subject to 24‑hour on‑call status.
- Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
- Village travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation.
- Valid Alaska Commercial Driver’s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
- High School graduate or G.E.D. or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
- Valid Alaska Driver’s License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
- Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800.
- Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications.
- One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance.
