Overview

For this highly technical position to provide a variety of healthcare services, within the scope of authority, in the examination and treatment of patients in the Village Health Clinics to support the goals of the Community Health Aide Program.

Responsibilities
  • Essential responsibilities include provision of primary health care (acute, chronic and preventative) services in the village and urgent/emergency services within the village boundaries.
  • Provides and documents medical assessments, treatments, medicines, and procedures to patients in the Village Health Clinic as outlined in the Community Health Aide Manual (eCHAM) provides health care services to residents within scope of authority.
  • Follow CHA/Trainee to CHA/Practitioner guidelines outlined by the Community Health Aide Training Centers and training curriculum. Must be willing to travel to training centers for basic training sessions and other required training given by Community Health Aide Program and to Village Clinics as needed.
  • Observes patients' yatır conditions and behavior; reports significant issues to supervisor or physician; records notes on patient chart; gives first aid as needed.
  • Interviews patient and takes thorough patient history; reviews health records, performs physical exam, orders appropriate laboratory tests and other evaluation tools; formulates diagnosis as required by providers and eCHAM, prescribes appropriate treatment, and develops a plan of care in accordance with consulting medical practitioner.
  • Monitors patients, follows established safe practices and safety protocols, and calls for assistance as required; maintains Clinic inventory of supplies and drugs as authorized and performs chart reviews.
  • Evaluates patient care continually and revises plan of care to meet the individualized patient needs.
  • Confers and consults with supervising physician as needed; collaborates with other professionals to provide continued care outside the limitations of the clinic.
  • Updates and maintains a variety of Clinic records; prepares reports as required.
  • Assist in performing home visits to patients who are too ill to come to the clinic and perform home wellness checks.
  • Make judgement call to establish transport if additional care is needed in clinic with assistance from Provider.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, organized and appropriately supplied clinic in accordance with Department and OSHA regulations.
  • Be available to provide coverage and/or obtain training in another village or location.
  • Coordinate activities of clinic staff as needed.
  • Develops and implements patient and family teaching programs based on identified health care goals.
  • Assist as necessary to cover the Village Clinic for after hour and weekend emergencies.
  • In the event of an emergency, will follow responsibilities as outlined in the North Slope Borough and program policies and procedures and the CEMP manual.
  • Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.
  • Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread pakket of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Travel to the villages within the North Slope Borough.
  • Obtain and maintain Collection Personnel Training揭 certificate.
  • Administer drug tests, utilizing federal drug testing procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge & Skills
    • Knowledge of Department and Borough policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of professional protocols and practices in healthcare and patient treatment as defined in CHAM.
    • Knowledge of the principles of medical records management, and patient file documentation procedures.
    • Skill in providing effective patient care services.
    • Skill in evaluating public health problems, and making recommendations based on observations.
    Qualifications
    • High school graduate or G.E.D or a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
    • Name‑check criminal background investigation conducted by the Alaska Department of Public Safety, or the state from which the individual is currently residing.
    • Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
