Installation Technician
Position Overview
We are looking for someone with +10 years’ experience electromechanical background and extensive knowledge of installing high‑voltage equipment in electrical substations. Knowledge of HVDC is a plus. Specifically, we are looking for someone with knowledge of the client live tank breakers, disconnectors and earthing switches, reactors, capacitor banks, and resistors.
This person must be fully familiar with the testing procedures to be carried out on each piece of equipment and know how to perform them. One of the main responsibilities, but not limited to, is to advise and support the subcontractors of partners on anything related to equipment installation. Provide a daily report on progress, problems, and difficulties to the Installation Manager, Site Manager, and PCCM.
Ensure that the subcontractor/partner’s subcontractor is working according to the plan and report any deviations or changes that arise.
- Ensure works are completed safely and in compliance with relevant safety and environmental plans on site.
- Coordinate works regularly with all other parties on site.
- Assist the HSE department in reviewing and implementing RAMS, and continually review them throughout the works.
- Ensure all plant and equipment used for the installation scope are in good working order, operated by experienced personnel, and supplied with valid certification.
- Guarantee personnel on site wear correct PPE and that it is in good condition.
- Complete a pre‑work brief before each task, including RAMS briefing, risk assessment, and other documentation.
- Report hazards, near misses, safety observations, and good practices to the onsite HSE team.
- Assist the HSE team in incident investigations if needed.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices in all installation work areas.
- Ensure proper waste management and correct waste streams are used.
- Identify and communicate changes to relevant parties.
- Guarantee that client commitments are met in accordance with the contract and any country‑specific requirements.
- Participate in technical discussions with customers and their consultants.
- Attend weekly progress meetings with the contractor.
- Perform quality checks during installation, including ITR inspections and compliance with the ITP.
- Guide the installation contractor throughout the installation and provide assistance as required.
- Ensure the installation is built correctly in accordance with the latest issued construction drawings.
- Confirm all works and testing use calibrated tools and equipment.
- Provide technical assistance on correct installation methods and queries.
- Keep documentation in order, ensuring the latest revision is used.
- Continuously update working documents and keep the Site Master updated with Red Marks throughout the installation period.
- Support engineering DRMs, providing feedback from a site point of view to ensure safe methods are considered.
- Use the QIT online application for reporting deviations and improvements.
- Follow the Site Quality Plan.
- Join the Installation Manager and customer for regular quality walks around completed installations.
- Assist with ITR inspections, ensuring they are conducted correctly by the installation contractor.
- Verify equipment storage and preservation requirements are met.
- Assist on mechanical completion inspections with the customer when applicable.
- Assist the Installation Manager with area handover inspections.
- Collate lessons learned information at project completion.
- Assist in planning site activities, including resources, milestones, and follow‑up on site activities.
- Help less experienced contractors plan their works and mentor them when needed.
- Understand the critical path scheduling and help create strategies to reduce associated risks.
- Report site progress, hindrances, and material supply status to the team.
- Seek and implement optimizations in the overall project plan.
- Mitigate delays by identifying best strategies and ensuring correct handling, storage, and installation of equipment.
- Assist in receiving and inspection log inspections for all equipment deliveries, offering technical assistance during inspections when required.
- Cooperate with the Logistics Coordinator to ensure equipment availability at the correct time.
- Monitor equipment laydown areas for correct storage and preservation.
