Grove Sous Chef
The sous chef is responsible for assisting the executive chef in all kitchen operations for Aspen Grove Family Camp and Conference Center. Responsibilities will include creating menus, training and supervising the food service staff, plus maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment. The position is responsible for assisting with food orders, deliveries, preparation, presentation, and staffing to ensure a cost‑effective operation.
Responsibilities- Supervise, direct and manage staff and student employees in the production of meals at Aspen Grove
- Keep all kitchen equipment clean, in proper working order, and sanitized
- Maintain proper and safe cooking habits
- Plan and record accurate amounts of food prepared and consumed for cost-effective evaluation
- Monitor leftovers and waste for cost control and maintaining good management
- Assist in hiring of employees for the food service team
What qualifies you for this role:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- 1+ years of experience in a hospitality-based industry including some cooking and management experience.
- Physical Exam And Lift Test Required
- Physical Effort – Moderate, including frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.
- Environment – Periodic exposure to unfavorable conditions due to variable temperatures or wet environments.
- Hazards – Minimal existing or potential hazards.
- Physical Requirements – Moving tables and chairs and dining service equipment; works in freezer while wearing gloves, coat, and headgear with below 0 temperatures; relocate a 50 lb. box of produce or other supplies; move laundry bins; lift buckets of ice for foundation drink machines.
- Graduate of a formal culinary arts program with professional culinary experience including both cooking and management responsibilities
- OR 3+ years of experience in food production

Pay Grade: 50
Typical Starting Pay: $25.00 – $32.50
