Overview

The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is the lead technical expert on the Radiation Safety Team and acts as the principal technical resource to the Mistras Services Group. The RSO is responsible for ensuring that all job sites and the facility use of radiation conform with the MISTRAS Radioactive Material License, selected industry standards, and applicable government regulations. The RSO is responsible to ensure that radiation exposures to personnel are as low as reasonably achievable.

The Quality Assurance Manager coordinates activities required to implement and maintain the Mistras Quality Assurance Program. The Quality Assurance Manager provides quality training and utilizes quality and continuous improvement tools to ensure the effectiveness of the quality assurance program through internal and external audits, customer complaints, corrective actions, etc. The candidate must be able to work as a team member in the continuous improvement of production processes and procedures, and work with customers to define and document their requirements.

This role will support day-to-day general operations, providing assistance as needed or directed by the General Manager.

Major Responsibilities / Activities of the RSO
  • Review state and federal laws and Mistras O & E to recommend modifications to enhance and ensure the compliance, safety, and efficiency of the MISTRAS Radiation Safety Program.
  • Perform and/or review investigations of overexposures, accidents, losses, thefts, unauthorized receipts, misuses, or other deviations from approved radiation safety practice and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Respond to radiation safety emergencies, and prepare and submit reports to the appropriate governing bodies.
  • Perform radiation safety audits and recommend improvements at each service location within Mistras.
  • Consolidate and computerize various program aspects. Improve and advance the overall culture of the Radiation Safety Program.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Major Responsibilities / Activities of the Quality Manager
  • Manage implementing, maintaining and enhancing the Quality Assurance program.
  • Manage the Nonconforming Material process and perform data analyses.
  • Manage the Corrective and Preventive Action process and perform data analyses.
  • Manage review of contracts, purchase orders, job travelers and work instructions.
  • Manage answering customer questions, providing records, and documenting customer interactions.
  • Manage the approval of suppliers and procurement of quality items.
  • Manage the personnel qualification and certification process, maintaining records, and working with NDT Level III.
  • Manage the implementation of new procedures within the Quality Assurance Program.
  • Ensure changes to the Quality Assurance Program are documented by revising the affected documents or reviewing the revised documents.
Minimum Requirements
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree from a college, trade school, or equivalent work experience.
  • Desire to develop the position and take on a more compliant role in the organization.
  • Formal training in the establishment and maintenance of a Radiation protection program (or the ability to obtain it).
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining a radiation protection program. Willingness to pursue RSO/IATA training if needed.
  • Must be a certified Radiographer and possess IRRSP Certification.
  • Travel – minimum 25%. Must be willing to perform radiography at job sites as needed.
  • On-site radiation safety performance as required.
