Facility OverviewThe Ambulatory Surgery Unit, or ASU, is located on the ground floor of the main hospital adjacent to the Operating Room (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). It consists of a 28-bed surgery prep unit and a 32-bed outpatient unit for pre and postoperative care for pediatric patients and adult postoperative care.

- Under the direct supervision of the ASU Nurse Manager, the Pre-Admission Nurse performs:
- Assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview or in person
- Collects the patient's medical history from previous medical records
- Works closely with the anesthesia department in coordinating the patient’s needs
- Performs direct patient care activities for all age groups
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for patients in accordance with the plan of care, established hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care
- Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of RN experience
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
- Other
Skills:
Strong clinical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Certifications: ACLS, PALS, and NRP (required for areas where applicable; must be maintained current)
- Experience: At least 1 year of RN experience
