Job Details Role and Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities through proactive market engagement, account targeting, and opportunity origination.
- Develop and execute business development plans aligned with company growth objectives, operating capacity, and strategic priorities.
- Build and maintain strong awareness of customer maintenance cycles, capital programs, asset integrity initiatives, and industry trends.
- Track competitor activity, pricing dynamics, and service line positioning to strengthen Thorpe’s competitive posture. Collaborate with regional and corporate leadership to support growth initiatives, major pursuits, and strategic accounts.
- Establish and grow relationships with decision makers across operations, maintenance, engineering, reliability, and procurement functions.
- Maintain consistent, value driven customer engagement through site visits, technical discussions, planning meetings, and executive level interactions.
- Position Thorpe as a trusted partner by understanding customer drivers, business pressures, and long–term objectives.
- Represent the company at industry events, customer forums, and networking functions.
- Serve as the voice of the customer internally to ensure alignment between customer expectations and service delivery.
- Identify, qualify, and develop project and service opportunities across turnaround, capital, and recurring maintenance scopes.
- Lead opportunity development efforts from early stage engagement through proposal preparation, negotiation support, and contract award.
- Coordinate with estimating, operations, engineering, and safety teams to develop competitive and executable solutions.
- Support commercial negotiations, scope development, and pricing strategies in accordance with internal approval processes.
- Maintain a structured sales pipeline and provide regular reporting on pursuits, forecasts, and market conditions.
- Work closely with operations leadership to align business development efforts with workforce capabilities, equipment availability, and execution readiness.
- Ensure effective handoff of awarded work including scope clarity, customer expectations, and relationship continuity.
- Participate in planning, backlog, and post‑execution reviews to strengthen future pursuits and customer positioning.
- Provide continuous market and customer feedback to support service line development and operational planning.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Proven sales experience in a related product or service.
- Familiarity with project‑based environments, particularly in heavy industry, energy, or construction.
- Willingness to travel regularly to client sites and industry events.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, and ability to express technical and non‑technical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Expert understanding of service and product, and ability to innovate new ways the product can serve customers.
- Excellent organizational skills to meet goals and set priorities.
- Innate drive to succeed and take initiative.
- Strong organizational talent and ability to work under pressure and in new environments.
- Frequent travel to client sites, industrial facilities, and project locations—this may involve driving or flying, often on short notice.
- Walking, standing, and climbing during site visits, including navigating uneven terrain, scaffolding, or confined areas (with proper safety protocols in place).
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection as required by site regulations.
- Occasional lifting or carrying of materials such as samples, equipment, or promotional materials (generally under 25 lbs).
- Exposure to outdoor elements and potentially high‑temperature or high‑noise environments, depending on site conditions.
- Comfort working in industrial environments, including refineries, power plants, or construction zones, where safety awareness is critical.
