the Role & A Day in the Life
This Narcotics Detective position focuses on complex narcotics and drug-related investigations. A typical day may include surveillance operations, developing and managing informants, executing search warrants, and collaborating with city and county attorneys. The Narcotics Detective conducts interviews and interrogations, processes crime scenes, preserves evidence, prepares detailed reports, and provides court testimony. You may also participate in covert operations, investigate drug-related crimes and deaths, and make arrests related to the illegal sale, purchase, or use of narcotics.
When needed, the Narcotics Detective assists with patrol duties, public outreach, and emergency response, always representing the department with professionalism.

Core RequirementsTo be successful as a Narcotics Detective
, candidates must be a U.S. citizen with a high school diploma and be a POST-certified police officer in good standing. The ideal Narcotics Detective will have either ten years of experience working within a drug task force or five years in a role where at least 90% of duties were narcotics-related, including extensive informant management and warrant writing. A valid Utah driver's license (or ability to obtain one), a good driving record, and the ability to pass Utah POST requirements are required.
