Overview

Utah State University Extension is seeking a part-time Program Coordinator to lead planning and coordination for the annual Opioid Response and Harm Reduction Conference, serving Tribal communities, rural populations, and high-risk occupations across Utah.

This grant-funded position focuses on conference logistics, partner outreach, scheduling, speaker coordination, and limited training support. The Coordinator will work closely with USU Extension faculty, Tribal partners, public health agencies, and community organizations to ensure a high-quality, culturally responsive conference that supports overdose prevention and harm reduction efforts.

Applicants with experience working with Tribal communities, rural stakeholders, or substance use prevention initiatives are strongly encouraged to apply. This position is hybrid work eligible within the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

Conference Planning & Coordination

  • Coordinate all aspects of the annual opioid response and harm reduction conference, including timelines, schedules, speakers, and logistics.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for speakers, panelists, exhibitors, and partner organizations.
  • Manage session scheduling, speaker confirmations, and day-of conference coordination.
  • Support venue coordination (virtual and/or in-person), registration processes, and event communications.

Outreach & Partner Engagement

  • Conduct targeted outreach to Tribal partners, rural organizations, and high-risk occupation groups to support conference participation.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with key partners to ensure alignment with community priorities.
  • Assist with promotion efforts, including coordination of flyers, email outreach, and social media content.

Program Support & Trainings

  • Provide logistical support for occasional overdose prevention or harm reduction trainings connected to the conference or program goals.
  • Assist faculty and trainers with scheduling, materials, and participant coordination.
  • Support culturally appropriate engagement with Tribal and rural audiences.

Administrative & Reporting Duties

  • Track conference activities, attendance, and partner engagement.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation required by program leadership and funding agencies.
  • Assist with preparation of brief reports, summaries, and evaluation data as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of professional experience in program coordination, event planning, or conference support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Tribal communities, rural populations, or public health programs strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of opioid overdose prevention, harm reduction, or substance use prevention is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, Google Drive, email, and social media).
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.

    Advertised Salary: $17.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
