Project Scope

This is a project‑based employee role supporting the initial development phase of our autonomous vehicle platforms. Development phases of this nature typically span up to approximately 24 months, though scope and duration are driven by business needs.

Summary

The primary responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer include researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for ASI’s robotic unmanned vehicles. The engineer designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, applying knowledge of engineering principles to create products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, and machines. The engineer conducts product testing, creates models and prototypes, and directs activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of systems.

The engineer reports to a manager/supervisor and works on projects of limited complexity in a support role, with close management.

Responsibilities
  • Research and analyze data including customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Design products or systems for robotic control using electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic principles and components.
  • Participate in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair activities that optimize utilization of machines and equipment.
  • Design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Contribute to design reviews.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 0‑2 years Mechanical Engineering related experience.
  • 0‑2 years of machine & product design experience using Solid Works, Pro‑E, or Catia.
  • Must have design experience in CAD/Solid Works software.
  • Experience using math software like Matlab or Mathcad.
  • Good technical writing skills.
  • Basic understanding or some experience with GD&T.
  • Familiar with stress analysis and thermal analysis.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuit design.
  • Familiar with strength of materials.
  • Understanding of fatigue.
  • Familiar with kinematics.
  • Experience with finite element analysis.
  • Some exposure to electrical engineering preferred.
