SummaryThe primary responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer include researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for ASI’s robotic unmanned vehicles. Designs, develop, and test all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, applying engineering principles to create engines, instruments, controls, robots, and machines. Conduct product testing, create models and prototypes, and coordinate fabrication and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
Contribute to moderately complex aspects of a project and report to a manager or supervisor. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.
- Research and analyze data including customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Design products or systems for robotic control using electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic principles and components.
- Participate in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair activities that optimize utilization of machines and equipment.
- Design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
- Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
- Contribute to design reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- 5-7 years of mechanical engineering related experience.
- 5-7 years of machine & product design experience using Solid Works, Pro‑E, or Catia.
- Proficient CAD skills in Solid Works.
- Extensive experience documenting design reviews.
- Proficient at documenting requirements.
- Must have experience in finite element analysis.
- Experience using hand calculations of stresses.
- Experience with GD&T.
- Proficient in using Math software such as MATLAB or Mathcad.
- Familiar with failure modes and effects analysis.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with patent law.
- Understanding of software development.
- Familiar with systems, heavy equipment, hydraulics, gearing, and motors.
