PositionPosition Title: Alterations Lead
Department: Costume Department - Costume Shop
Position SummaryBeing a part of the Costume Shop means working under the Costume Shop Supervisor to bring the Costume Design to life on stage in the red rocks of Padre Canyon.
Our alterations heads are responsible for being in fittings to ensure that every costume gets custom fit to each performer. You will pin each garment as needed and make sure notes taken are correct so that everyone looks their best. You would also organize and prep the costume notes to be completed. While you will work on notes as you have time, you ll also direct your team of stitchers through working on notes, communicating what is to be done so they can complete everything correctly.
Responsibilities- Attend fittings to ensure custom fit for each performer and pin garments as needed.
- Organize and prep costume notes for completion.
- Direct and communicate with the team of stitchers to complete notes accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborate with the costume team to efficiently complete assigned projects.
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor with performers and staff on campus.
- Listen, take instruction, and participate in a team to complete tasks.
- Clean and maintain all spaces daily.
- Work outdoors in a desert climate as needed (build facilities indoors).
- Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
- Demonstrated skill in custom fitting/pinning garments on others.
- Knowledge and experience in various costume construction techniques including tailoring, period construction, and alterations.
- Proficiency in sewing skills, from machine to hand sewing techniques.
- Knowledge of theatrical construction and quick rigging techniques.
- Good communication skills, in listening, collaboration, and teaching/instructing.
- Proficiency with shop equipment including industrial and domestic sewing machines, multi-needle (sergers and cover locks), leather/walking foot sewing machines, steam irons, and cutting tools.
- Ability to teach/instruct others on machine tension/threading and all sewing techniques.
- Ability to instruct/teach alterations techniques.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
- 3+ years professional garment fitting/construction experience.
- Adhere to and promote all OSHA safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment.
- 5+ years professional garment fitting/construction experience.

Pay$22.75 /hr
