Immanuel Communities is seeking a Maintenance Tech-HVAC to work at Deerfield located at 13731 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA 50323. Deerfield has 122 independent‑living apartment homes, 32 independent‑living patio homes, 20 assisted living, 24 residential care apartment homes and 30 long‑term care/skilled nursing suites.

The schedule is full‑time Days shift Monday through Friday, starting between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM and ending between 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM. The position also includes an on‑call rotation for one week each month.

Pay will be based upon experience, certifications, skills and education.

Job Duties & Skills Required What You Will Do

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that all utilities within Immanuel communities remain fully operational. Key responsibilities include repairing and maintaining the facility’s mechanical systems and equipment, including heating and cooling systems, appliances, plumbing, and emergency power, to support a safe, efficient, and well‑functioning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain energy management system.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair on heat pumps or other HVAC units.
  • Conduct thorough weekly, monthly, and annual generator inspections to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform monthly water temperature checks and maintain log.
  • Use electronic work order system to prioritize/organize orders.
  • Complete assigned work orders fully, with accurate time tracking and detailed notes.
  • Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance on equipment and systems.
  • Complete all necessary apartment turnover tasks, including servicing, repairing, and replacing fixtures and appliances as needed.
  • Ensure units are move‑in ready by conducting thorough inspections, addressing maintenance issues, and adhering to quality standards and timelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Ensure all work areas remain clean, organized, and free of hazards to promote a safe and efficient working environment.
Skills & Requirements Education
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Associate’s degree is preferred.
Experience
  • Two (2) years of maintenance technician experience is required.
  • Knowledge of split system units preferred.
Other Requirements
  • EPA certification is required.
  • Certification in Trade HVAC/Electric/Plumbing is required.
  • OSHA 10‑hour certification required within one year of start date.
  • Masters Degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required.

Skills and Abilities

(KSA)
  • Knowledge of energy management systems.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, electrical and basic plumbing principles.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Basic plumbing skills (snaking drains, disposals, sink pop‑ups).
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical issues.
  • Mechanical problem solving.
  • Excellent customer service and communication.
  • Determine installation, service or repair needs.
  • Work safely following OSHA, EPA and other guidelines.
  • Diagnose maintenance problems and seek resolutions.
  • Manage time and prioritize projects.
  • Understand low‑voltage controls.
  • Be on‑call.
