Job Description

Des Moines Christian is introducing a new Wrestling Development Lead position to support the intentional development of a wrestling program. This stipend, part‑time role will focus on leading the creation, development, and implementation of a Christ‑centered wrestling initiative. The initial focus will be establishing a parent‑led DMC Lions Wrestling Club for students in grades K–9, with a long‑term vision toward building a sustainable, competitive wrestling program aligned with the mission and values of DMC.

This position provides vision, leadership, and coordination for both boys and girls wrestling opportunities, partnering closely with families, school leadership, and the Activities Department to ensure a strong foundation for program sustainability and growth.

The intended scope and duration is a temporary position (minimum 2‑year commitment). This position has the potential for evolving into a Head or Assistant Coaching position within the DMC Wrestling program once it is established as a sanctioned sport offered through DMC.

Qualifications
  • Wrestling coaching experience preferred (youth, club, high school, or collegiate).
  • Experience developing or growing youth athletic programs preferred.
  • Ability to lead, organize, and collaborate with parent volunteers.
  • Strong communication and relational skills with students, parents, and staff.
  • Commitment to modeling Christ‑centered leadership through athletics.
  • Professing believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and committed to growing in a relationship with Him.
  • In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Statement of Faith.
  • In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Biblical Convictions for Christian Education.
  • Regularly attends and is actively involved in a church that affirms historic Christian orthodoxy (doctrine, faith, teaching, practice), consistent with the DMC Statement of Faith, through that church’s public creed, confession, core beliefs, or statement of faith.

Responsibilities Wrestling Club Development
  • Leads the efforts to establish a parent‑run Lions Wrestling Club, modeled after existing Lions athletic clubs connected to Des Moines Christian.
  • Works directly with parent volunteers and club leaders.
  • Provides overall vision, direction, and structure for the wrestling club.
  • Recruits, organizes, and supports parent volunteers and coaches.
  • Develops and communicates a clear club mission, goals, and operating procedures.
  • Leads the ongoing planning and recruitment of students and families into the Lions Wrestling Club.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between families and the DMC Activities Department.
Program Leadership and Operations
  • Leads both boys and girls wrestling club participants.
  • Makes recommendations regarding facility usage, initial equipment needs, and safety standards.
  • Assists in facility planning and space usage in coordination with DMC Activities Department.
  • Builds relationships with local wrestling clubs, organizations, and youth leagues.
  • Supports scheduling of practices, events, and competitions as applicable.
Vision and Growth
  • Collaborates with the Head of Student Activities to cast long‑term vision for the future growth of wrestling at Des Moines Christian.
  • Evaluates program progress and provides recommendations for expansion or next phases.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of Activities.
