About Salt & Light (S&L)We are a non-denominational, Christian nonprofit not affiliated with any one church, rather, working with many different individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations in fulfilling our mission and vision.
We opened in January 2004 in Champaign, IL, and became the largest emergency food program in Champaign County, providing essential resources and programs such as food pantry, clothing closet, school supplies, meals at Thanksgiving, and gifts later added financial education classes and a computer lab, moving from simply providing things to offering opportunities for people to grow.
About the PositionReporting to the Sales Floor Manager and Sales Floor Assistant Manager, the Cashier Team Member helps fulfill our mission and vision by providing outstanding customer service to our customers, donors, volunteers, and all staff members. The Cashier Team Member loves people, is a highly motivated self-starter, and is comfortable being part of a team while providing excellent service to our customers.
Responsibilities- Greet customers with smiles, kind words, and honest customer service.
- Quick and accurate sales transactions using the point of sales system.
- Assist customers, volunteers, and employees with questions and help with needs.
- Use point of sale system efficiently.
- Accurate cash handling.
- Quickly and accurately move customers through the line.
- Communicate with the manager and assistant manager regarding any questions, problems, or concerns.
- Clock in and out for shifts appropriately.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Work well with diverse staff, customers, and volunteers.
- Self-starter and solution-focused.
- Work efficiently in a team and independently.
- Ability to learn the organization’s digital point of sale.
- Ability to read, do basic math, and cash handling.
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift merchandise throughout an 8-hr shift.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more with assistance.
- $15.50 hour.
