OverviewThe position allows you to provide both care for extremely preterm and term infants. Critical assessment, critical thinking, and education are key.
Position Highlights- Unit: NT9 NICU
- Number of beds: 48 (23 Level 3, 25 Level
2) - Patient population:
Prematurity, hypoglycemia, transient tachypnea, respiratory distress syndrome, feeding difficulties, medication withdrawal, whole body cooling. - Typical nurse‑to‑patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:3.
- Unit culture: fast‑paced with complex patients; requires strong communication and teamwork with family members.
- Common nursing skills/equipment: IV insertion, NG/OG insertion, medication administration, strong assessment, bar‑code scanning.
- Certifications:
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (within 1 year) – American Academy of Pediatrics;
Basic Life Support (BLS) (within 30 days) – American Heart Association. - Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Education:
Nursing Diploma. - Work experience:
RN >1 year.
- Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit scope of service.
- Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
- Maintains up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care.
- Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops a plan of care based on unit standards and patient/family needs.
- Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
- Modifies plan of care based on continuous evaluation.
- Ensures patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues.
- Offers constructive feedback to peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge.
- Identifies own learning needs and initiates appropriate solutions.
- Fulfills departmental competencies.
- Monitors intake and output of neonatal patient assignments.
- Assists mothers with breastfeeding initiation and baby‑friendly care.
- Administers medications using proper bar‑code scanning.
- Reports on patient assignments during multidisciplinary rounds.

Compensation And BenefitsCompensation range: $35.22 to $60.58 per hour.
