Job SummaryParticipate in the implementation of the total childcare program of the facility, working in cooperation with other Associates and under general supervision from higher level personnel.
Duties & Responsibilities- Curriculum:
Assist the head teacher in developing programs and procedures focusing on child safety and development across cognitive, language/literacy, social, emotional, fine and large motor, and creative domains. - Participate in weekly curriculum planning with team members and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum meeting licensing requirements and NAEYC standards.
- Assist in developing and implementing developmental assessment tools; observe children to evaluate development and adjustment.
- Prepare reports on growth and development for parent-teacher conferences.
- Keep the head teacher informed of program changes, parental concerns, supplies and equipment needs, and any issues during the head teacher s absence.
- Adult Supervision:
In the head teacher s absence, supervise activities and provide training for lower level staff, students, and interns. - Assist in professional development activities for local, state, and national child care communities; participate in staff development workshops to meet licensing and NAEYC standards; assume head teacher responsibilities as needed.
- Daily Caregiving:
Provide for the physical needs of children, supervise feeding, dressing, naps, and other activities; maintain daily communication with parents about the child s condition and schedule or activity participation. - Environment:
Maintain an orderly, attractive environment conducive to growth and development; collaborate with team members to support the CDL mission. - Research and Teaching Support:
Provide feedback on intern performance related to interactions and lesson plan implementation; assist researchers in classroom rapport-building to facilitate participation. - Miscellaneous:
Assist head teachers and the associate director in implementing in-service and pre-service professional development; participate in staff development to meet guidelines; assume duties of the head teacher as needed; perform other related duties as assigned.

- Possession of credentials required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for employment as a Child Care Worker in a licensed facility.
- A. Bachelor’s degree in child development, education, or related fields, including 18 semester hours directly related to child development and/or child care, of which 6 semester hours are for birth to age six; OR
- B. Two years of experience comparable to the lower level, plus 18 additional semester hours of credit for related coursework.
- Must hold certification or obtain within 1 month of hire date in first aid, CPR (including all age groups served), Heimlich maneuver, and infant choking first aid; see CDL requirements for details.

Appointment Information100% full-time Civil Service 3474 - Child Development Supervisor position, 12-month appointment. Wage: $40,521. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available. Illinois residency requirements apply; provide a valid Illinois driver s license or on campus per the University s Workplace Flexibility Policy. Expected start date: as soon as possible after 2/4/2026.
