Graduate Advisor - Aerospace Engineering
The Department of Aerospace Engineering at the Grainger College of Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign, seeks a Graduate Advisor. The role supports the administrative, advising, recruiting, and admissions operations of the department's graduate programs.
Responsibilities- Serve as primary contact for all graduate students (PhD, MS, MEng) regarding department and campus policy and procedures.
- Advise graduate students lacking a research adviser.
- Perform degree audits, thesis reviews, petition submissions, and assist in organizing teaching assistant assignments.
- Collaborate with the Grainger College of Engineering to establish new courses and monitor consistency with college and campus policies.
- Provide course revisions, new course proposals, program of study updates, and non‑transcriptable certificate details.
- Assist with admissions and records, non‑degree requests, and enrollment management.
- Coordinate with the International Programs Engineering Office on exchange‑program applications and provide input for new exchange offers.
- Serve on campus and college committees, including the Graduate College Advisory Board and the Graduate Policy Committee.
- Assume additional related graduate‑advisor duties to support the department’s mission.
- Process and track graduate student appointments.
- Assist in program reviews, annual reports, and maintain admission, enrollment, and graduation statistics.
- Collect and analyze outcomes data from graduating students and alumni.
- Develop and implement graduate‑student post‑graduation placement protocols and collaborate with career services.
- Assist prospective and admitted students through the admissions process, answering questions about requirements, funding, and application decisions.
- Provide guidance on fellowship opportunities and assist with recruitment efforts.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Two years of experience providing student support in a private, public or academic setting.
- Strong project‑management, customer‑service, and communication skills.
- Experience working with diverse individuals.
- Experience with graduate‑student academic records, registration systems (e.g., Banner).
- In‑depth knowledge of campus and departmental policies related to academic and student personnel.
- Track record of customer service with faculty and graduate students, results‑oriented and organized.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
This is an Academic Professional position appointed on a 12‑month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Salary range: $55,000‑$65,000. Hybrid work options may be available; the position requires on‑site presence on campus as needed.
