Overview

CHILD PROTECTION SPECIALIST FLOATER

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services seeks an organized, professional, and results-oriented individual to serve as a Child Protection Specialist Floater. Under direction, this position will receive and investigate reports of alleged child abuse/neglect within mandated time limits. The position assesses the immediate safety of children and initiates appropriate levels of child protection. This role is best suited for someone passionate about children and the protection of families in Illinois.

Essential

Functions
  • Serves as Child Protection Specialist Floater, supporting field offices in a floater capacity.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, assessments, and case documentation.
  • Selects, summarizes, and presents case material for transfer to permanency caseworkers or intact/prevention caseworkers.
  • Determines the need for and coordinates placement of children in substitute care facilities.
  • Attends multi-disciplinary diagnostic and technical staff conferences to assess needed services.
  • Transports clients when taking protective custody, placing them in substitute care, or changing placement locations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the listed duties.
Minimum Qualifications

Preferably requires a master’s degree in social work. Alternatively, a master’s degree in a related human service field (criminal justice, criminal justice administration, or law enforcement) with one year of directly related professional experience; or a bachelor’s degree in social work with one year of directly related professional experience; or a bachelor’s degree in a related human service field with two years of directly related professional experience.

The issuing college/university for bachelor’s or master’s degree must be accredited, and the social work degree program must be approved by the Council on Social Work Education.

Conditions Of Employment
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires a valid driver’s license, daily access to an automobile, and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires physical, visual, and auditory ability to carry out assigned duties.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment and may require evenings, weekends, or a 24-hour on-call capacity.
