The Urbana Free Library is seeking a self‑motivated individual to perform routine daily and periodic custodial and maintenance tasks. Duties also include some snow removal, light landscaping/weeding, and leaf collection/disposal. Job SummaryThe Building Operations Assistant performs routine cleaning and maintenance activities per the Library's detailed cleaning schedules and as assigned. Keeps the Library building and property in a clean and orderly condition. The Building Operations Assistant reports to the Building Operations Manager.
The Ideal Candidate Has- Knowledge of basic janitorial and maintenance processes.
- Dependability, trustworthiness, and honesty.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and to work on one's feet for an entire shift.
- Ability to work full range of Library hours, including evenings and weekends.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications- Prior janitorial and maintenance experience.

At least two people will be present on the panels. Applicants will be asked a list of standard questions, but these questions don't require prior preparation. In the interviews, we will want to learn about you, your experiences, and how you would function in a library setting. We expect to schedule these interviews in April 2026.
