Position: Camp Counselor - Summer 2026
Location: Upper St. Clair

POSITION SUMMARY

The Camp Counselor is responsible for the daily supervision, care, and guidance of a group of preschool or school-age campers during the Summer Camp program, June - August 2026. This position plans, organizes, and leads engaging, age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities in collaboration with a co-counselor, fostering a safe, inclusive, and enriching camp environment.

The Camp Counselor works under the direct supervision of the Camp Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize, and implement a variety of age-appropriate recreational, educational, and creative activities that promote campers’ physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Provide continuous supervision to ensure the safety and physical and emotional well-being of all campers.
  • Apply effective supervision techniques at all times, including during on-site activities and off-site field trips.
  • Create and maintain a positive, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere in which campers feel safe, supported, and encouraged to grow.
  • Enforce and uphold all camp policies, procedures, rules, and safety regulations consistently and fairly.
  • Collaborate with co-counselors and other camp staff to share responsibilities and ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with the Camp Director regarding camper needs, behavioral concerns, or personal matters.
  • Communicate daily in a professional, courteous manner with campers’ parents or guardians regarding activities and camper experiences.
  • Actively participate in camp games, programs, and activities alongside campers, serving as a positive role model at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated interest in working with preschool or school-age children in a summer camp or recreational setting.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise children in a positive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, parents, supervisors, and peers.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Willingness to wear appropriate swim attire and enter the water, as directed, to assist lifeguards in supervising campers during pool activities.
  • Ability to model appropriate behavior, personal appearance, and cleanliness for campers.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and balance work responsibilities with personal conduct.
Education and Experience
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by June 19, 2026.
  • Prior experience working with preschool or school-age children preferred.
  • Must possess a current CPR certification or successfully obtain certification through the Community & Recreation Center by June 19, 2026.
  • Must obtain FBI, Child Abuse, and Criminal History Clearances prior to the start date.

  • Sporting equipment, arts and crafts materials, and general office supplies.
  • iPad and/or laptop.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
