Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations, overseeing sales, guest service, and team performance to achieve company goals.
EssentialJob Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide best-in-class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions quickly and courteously, recommend items, and reinforce all selling behaviors.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual display, operations, current sales initiatives, and guest relationships that drive sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the POS computer system, ensuring top‑notch service.
- Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone, following the established greeting procedure and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Promote Game Stop’s guest benefits, such as the new title reservations program, trade‑in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
- Assist the Store Manager with training associates in policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines.
- Observe associate performance, provide feedback to the Store Manager, and address unsatisfactory performance.
- Provide timely recognition and feedback to all associates; regularly input written feedback into Workday/HR systems.
- Ensure associates complete onboarding, training, and compliance before operating independently.
- Schedule associates following guidelines, ensuring adequate staffing and that breaks/time are accounted for.
- Approve payroll, enter paid time off, and verify associates are compensated for all time worked.
- Maintain clean, organized store areas, including restrooms, and ensure fixtures and equipment are functional.
- Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.
- Protect company assets through effective inventory control, loss prevention, and daily bank deposits.
- Support the team in meeting sales, profit, and shrink goals, performing required administrative tasks.
- Conduct inventory counts and restock merchandise on the sales floor.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily transaction totals accurately in the POS system.
- Verify shipments for discrepancies, record discrepancies, and communicate them to management.
- Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately and promptly.
- Maintain associate and guest safety, addressing hazardous situations immediately.
- Assist in maintaining accurate store records and filing.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the Manager’s absence.
- Consistently adhere to Game Stop policies and procedures.
- Follow all opening and closing procedures.
- Provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
- At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, and/or management experience preferred.
- Video game knowledge preferred.
