About the RoleOur Distribution client is looking for a strong Director of Accounting to join their team. This position will manage general accounting and inventory accounting while overseeing a large team. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will have controllership responsibilities over all accounting and reporting. Their ideal candidate must come from a product-based company and have experience managing a team.

- Actively participate in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, which includes review or preparation of journal entries, review of balance sheet reconciliations and analysis of balance sheet and income statement.
- Oversee inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and margin analysis in a distribution environment.
- Automating reporting and analysis using advanced Excel and Access tools, such as pivot tables and queries.
- Cost modeling and product pricing studies and new item setups.
- Preparing spending and variance analysis.
- Responsible for internal controls, financial control documentation and testing, and supporting audits.
- Ensuring that items are correctly classified, and statements are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Drive process improvements in the accounting and reporting of inventory, COGS and in-licensing collaborations.
- Assisting in the analytical and/or strategic function, including the development of budgeting, planning, and forecasting.
- Ability to manage and allocate resources, set priorities, and coordinate with various departments and third-party vendors.
- Conceiving ideas for problem resolution (e.g., supporting cost improvement teams).
- Providing management with key performance indicators for decision-making purposes.
- Assisting operations with periodic physical inventory counts and monitoring cycle counting, as well as investigating variances and resolving issues.
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar degree
- Experience with in inventory accounting is required.
- Current experience in a product-based company is required.
- Team management experience is required.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP standards is required.
- Public Accounting experience is highly desired.
