Position Summary The Medical Assistant works with the physician and other members of the primary or specialty care team by performing a variety of clinical and administrative patient‑related duties.The role ensures smooth patient flow within the department, fulfills a variety of patient needs, and assists with front‑desk responsibilities. Essential Functions
- Greets patients on the phone and in person
- Places patients in the exam rooms
- Takes vital signs and performs ancillary tests appropriate to skill level
- Assists and sets up for providers during examination, treatment, and procedures
- Keeps accurate patient files
- Applies dressing, bandages, and splints as ordered by provider
- Ensures rooms are stocked with necessary supplies
- Maintains a sanitized and safe working environment
- Maintains HIPAA compliance
- Coordinates services between multiple practices, demonstrating excellent communication skills
- Performs other medical assistant duties as necessary
- Assists with front‑desk responsibilities
Education:
certification from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent combination of training; or a combination of academic education and professional training that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- 1+ years medical assistant experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current American Heart Association CPR certification
- Certification from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent combination of training
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies
- Ability to adapt to advancement and changing technology
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness
- Ability to establish cooperative relationships with all levels of staff
- Basic typing skills to input data into information systems
- Experience in an outpatient practice
- Ability to coordinate patient services, assist patients with office procedures, medications, and procedure authorizations, and explain the process to patients
- Ability to use EMR and perform chart abstraction into EMR
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to prioritize work efficiently
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing skills
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills
- Must be able to multi‑task and be flexible in changing work assignments at short notice, including increasing work hours as needed to cover practice needs
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced setting
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
