The Assistant Director, Student Organizations is a leader for student organizations and ensures a vision that builds community and engagement while continuously looking to grow the programs. The Assistant Director also has responsibility for the management, operation, and promotion of the co-curricular management software (Engage) and the student event registration process.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs Higher Education or related area.
  • Three years of experience in managing programs, preferably in education setting or other related experience (Grad. Assistant experience acceptable).
  • At least 1 year experience supervising staff and/or students
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with student engagement software Engage, Campus Groups or Modern Campus.
  • Ability to work independently in setting priorities to ensure that responsibilities are carried out in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Ability to counsel undergraduate and graduate students on a one‑on‑one and group basis to resolve university related problems.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community members of diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Previous professional work experience with student organizations and event coordination. Knowledge student development theory.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Experience with database management, web page design and MS Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Social Media platforms.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
Student Engagement and Leadership 35%
  • In collaboration with leadership, create and communicate a compelling and unifying vision for student organizations that builds community and generates excitement, enthusiasm, and engagement.
  • Conduct assessments of programs and services to ascertain achievement of learning outcomes and student participation.
  • Serve as advisor to Tier 3 and other key student organizations
  • Assess campus community interests, needs, resources, and national trends in student organization programs to develop programming.
  • Participate in evaluating and developing policies related to student organizations and recommend changes based on the needs, interests, and national trends.
  • Regularly communicate (report) on student participation and outcomes
  • Maintain regular contact with student organization leaders for problem solving, organizational development strategies, and budget planning.
  • Advise student organization(s) and their leaders in the planning of student sponsored programs and activities, educational and social programs and anticipate student programming/leadership issues.
  • Partner directly with academic units to ensure integration of academic co‑curricular groups with the student organization structure.
Student Organizations 30%
  • Oversee the online student organization management system for the University (Engage).
  • Provide training to student organizations and other university units for Engage.
  • Manage the processing and approval of student organization events through Engage in collaboration with the Student Union and Campus Events.
  • Manage and execute the annual registration and training program, SORT, for all registered student organizations.
  • Collect information about available programs and resources and advise student groups on which programs may best suit their interests/needs.
  • Plan and implement a series of workshops that will provide resources and training to student organization leadership
  • In consultation with colleagues, regularly audit, review, and update relevant policies for student organizations.
Communication 20%
  • Utilize University communication outlets to promote events.
