Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Tele/Stepdown position in an acute care setting, requiring a PA or compact RN license and advanced cardiac skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 28-bed Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit within an acute hospital setting
- Primary patient population includes heavy cardiac (dysrhythmias, CVA) and stepdown cases, including patients downgraded from ICU
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 (may be 1:6 for Med Surg acuity)
- Use of cardiac telemetry monitoring; RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting strips
- Must titrate drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin; insulin is set-rate only; no sedation drips
- Experience with Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow oxygen required
- 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and every other holiday as per rotation
- Potential floating to ICU as helping hands
- Uses both Cerner and Epic EMR systems
- 2 shift floor-specific orientation with preceptor provided
- RNs serve as the central monitor station for the entire hospital and are expected to interpret telemetry independently
- Support team includes hospitalists and respiratory therapists in-house 24/7; limited overnight CNA support
- Navy blue scrubs required, including jackets if worn
- Holiday and weekend shifts are assigned in rotation with permanent staff
- Testing on EKG interpretation may be required for consideration
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Travelers cannot work within this health system for more than one year without a 2-year break
- Active PA or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years' recent experience in a stepdown or similar setting
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Ability to titrate specified cardiac drips and manage advanced oxygen therapy devices
- Unexpired driver's license must be provided for consideration
- Candidates cannot be considered if they have worked at this health system within the last 2 years
- No local travelers allowed; must live outside a 50-mile radius
