Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Stepdown position in an acute care setting, requiring a PA or Compact RN license and advanced cardiac skills.

• Position is in a 28-bed IMCU Telemetry/Stepdown unit within an acute care hospital
• Shift schedule consists of 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend as scheduled
• Patient population includes heavy cardiac, dysrhythmias, CVAs, mixed diagnoses, and patients downgraded from ICU
• Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:4-5, up to 1:6 with Med Surg acuity
• RNs are responsible for interpreting tele strips and serve as central monitor station for the hospital
• Must be able to titrate drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Heparin; insulin drips are set-rate only
• Ventilator support includes Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow
• Charting is performed on Cerner and Epic systems
• Could be required to float to ICU as helping hands
• Two nurse aides are present per shift during day and mid shifts; no CNA coverage after 11 p.m.
• Required to work every other holiday in line with permanent staff rotation
• Dress code is navy blue scrubs with matching jackets
• RNs are responsible for central telemetry monitoring station duties for the hospital
• Hospitalist in-house 24/7 for support;
  Intensivist in ICU 7a-7p with on-call coverage after hours
• IV team is not available, but ICU charge nurses or ICU Director can assist with difficult sticks
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy are staffed onsite 24/7
• All candidates receive two full orientation shifts with a preceptor specific to the floor
• Pass/fail EKG testing required prior to specialty unit placement
• Block scheduling is available and supported by leadership
• Must provide two professional references, recent skills checklist, and complete work history for consideration
• Travelers may not work for more than one year at WVU facilities without a two-year break
• First-time travelers are accepted

• Active PA or Compact RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years RN experience in a telemetry or stepdown setting
• Valid BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Experience with titrating cardiac drips and managing ventilatory support required
• Experience with Cerner and Epic EMR systems preferred
• Unexpired copy of driver's license must be provided for consideration
• Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility; local travelers are not accepted
• Cannot have been employed at any WVU Medicine location within the last 2 years
