POSITION TITLE: Seasonal Laborer – Summer 2026
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, & Library Services
REPORTS TO: Director of Parks, Recreation, & Library Services
CLASS / RATE OF PAY: $10.00 - $15.00 / hour based on experience & job assignment
HOURS: Seasonal (Approx. May – August);
Full-time and Part-time positions available
UNION: Non-Union
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt, hourly
SUMMARY OF
JOB DUTIES:
The Borough of Hanover is seeking motivated and dependable Seasonal Laborers to assist with grounds maintenance, facilities, and event support during the Summer 2026 season. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in their work, and want to contribute to keeping our community safe, clean, and welcoming.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Perform general labor tasks, including:
- Mowing, trimming, and landscaping of Borough parks and properties
- Painting, cleaning, and facility upkeep
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Operate hand tools and equipment safely and responsibly
- Support for community events and programming at Guthrie Memorial Library, Hanover Market House, Downtown, and various other parks, playgrounds, and facilities.
- Work effectively as part of a team
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 8th grade education; preferably over age 18 or age 16 with a valid work permit.
- Prior experience in landscaping, maintenance, or related work helpful, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time, often in inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to interact courteously and patiently with the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is primarily outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions and varying environments. Employees may encounter sharp or moving objects, dust, noise, vibrations, smoke/fumes/odors, slippery surfaces, food waste, and occasional hostile interactions with the public. Proper PPE will be provided and must be worn as required.
