This role is focused on youth programming support. Students or individuals with interests in visual art, craft, living heritage, and community engagement are encouraged to apply!

We are seeking funding through provincial and federal employment programs. To be eligible for this position the candidate must be:

• a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
• legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
• between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
• a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.

Job Description

With support from the Programming Director and Board of Directors, the Youth Coordinator will:

• Set up youth-oriented events using Square and other ticket-tracking software
• Plan and implement outdoor youth programming such as public workshops and events
• Keep track of youth programming registrations
• Communicate with the Communications Coordinator about weekly website maintenance including updating our event calendar, youth programming information, outreach, and other general web tasks
• Support and implementation of programming such as the land-based youth workshop series
• Run Free to Play programming project (project funding pending)
• Develop outdoor, all-age programming ideas and partnerships
• Write, edit, and create waivers and other youth programming documents (e.g., photo release)
• Develop and implement summer and fall youth programming
• Create and implement a community outreach plan to involve local and visiting youth in UHA programming
  • Plan and execute community youth outreach initiatives
• Co-run, with the Communications Coordinator, community programming that may include, but isn’t limited to, community barbeques, bonfires, backyard movie nights, or other events
• Process and track data on visitor numbers, workshop attendance, memberships, and project impact using Microsoft Excel
• Document events with photos/video
• On occasion, aid visitors by providing information about the Gallery, the Port Union area, and the Bonavista Peninsula
• Plan guided hikes and foraging days for youth and local community members
• Build on Vista Family Partnership through implementing youth and family outreach surveys, educational programs and more
• Assist visiting artists with questions and issues as pertains to youth engagement
• Researching and compiling funding streams for youth programs
  • Aid in planning and implementation of fundraising
  • Assist Programming Director with grant writing as pertains to youth programming if needed

The Youth Coordinator will also be responsible for various other gallery and garden maintenance tasks such as preparing artist residency apartments and studios in between visitors, set up and clean up during workshops, watering and weeding plans, and locking up the building at the end of open hours or an event. Other tasks may be assigned as required upon consultation with the employee.

This position is intended for an individual who has some experience working with arts organizations and is enthusiastic about developing networks and working with artists from across the province and country.
