As a member of an inter-professional team and working under full scope of practice, the role of the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Providence Care is to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered care to assigned patients in a non-acute setting, as outlined by hospital policies, procedures, and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. The RPN will assist patients and their caregivers in managing clinical conditions and transitions, and enhance quality of life by addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current CPR certificate
- College certificate required; diploma preferred
- Medication Certificate dated after 1985 meeting the requirements of the Ontario College of Nurses, if graduated before 1985
Position Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate competencies essential for safe and effective patient care
- Assist in evaluating the health status of patients with well-defined, established care needs, providing direct care
- Help establish priorities for care, including preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative aspects
- Advocate for patients and caregivers, recognizing them as major decision makers
- Seek assistance when knowledge, judgment, or skills are beyond scope or when safety may be compromised
- Evaluate patient care outcomes and modify plans based on responses, reporting as needed
