Plans and delivers curriculum within the Building Maintenance program aligned to Basic Building Maintenance Curriculum, covering a wide range of essential maintenance skills. Teaches a full range of non-credit lecture and lab courses in the Building Maintenance program, providing students with classroom and hands on learning. Performs student learning outcome assessment to make continuous improvements and actively engages in the promotion of workplace health and safety-related areas.
Collaborates with other instructors and staff to provide appropriate learning opportunities for students. Monitors students while they practice within program labs.
- Prepares and delivers learning activities to achieve course outcomes in key areas including but not limited to:
- Electrical: breakers, switches, wiring, and alarm systems
- Plumbing: faucet/toilet repair, drains, water supply, and hot water tanks
- HVAC: air conditioners and thermostats
- Appliances: washer/dryer, dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, and refrigerator
- Drywall & Painting: cutting, spackling, sanding, taping, and painting techniques
- General Maintenance: pest checks, windows/doors/locks, safety, and tenant relations
- Provides a learning environment appropriate for enhancing academic progress
- Provides instructional methodologies and hands‑on demonstrations consistent with student needs within the program guidelines
- Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts
- Provides well defined goals for student achievement
- Evaluates and grades student’s class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers, and examinations
- Maintains up-to-date academic and attendance records in compliance with school and regulatory organization policies and guidelines
- Fosters effective communication between students, staff, and administration
- Periodically meets with supervisors, division, or College, relative to teaching duties and training development
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in building maintenance or facilities management or Journeyman’s Card in related field
- Experience delivering hands‑on instruction in a classroom or training environment
- Relevant certifications or licenses in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or general maintenance

- Demonstrated expertise in building maintenance
- Possess strong organizational and time‑management skills
- Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to travel between campuses
- Demonstrated proficiency in current industry technology
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent)
- Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail
- Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of the community

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION/TRAINING
- Prior teaching or training experience, especially in apprenticeship or workforce development programs
